On December 28, 2020, a Nigerian military vehicle hit a landmine planted by Boko Haram in Logomani village, near Cameroon. The explosion killed four soldiers.

On December 24, 2019, jihadists attacked an army outpost in northern Burkina Faso, killing 7 soldiers. In a simultaneous attack on the nearby town of Arbinda, militants killed 35 civilians. ISIS claimed responsibility for the deaths of the 7 soldiers, but not the civilians.

On December 21, 2019, al-Shabaab suicide bombers detonated a vehicle outside Galkayo, Somalia. The attack targeted military commanders as they were leaving a hotel to attend a meeting. The attack killed at least eight people and wounded another 55.

On December 17, 2016, a suicide car bomb destroyed a bus carrying Turkish soldiers visiting a market in Kayseri, central Turkey. Officials said the attack, which killed 13 soldiers and wounded at least 55 others, bore the hallmarks of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

ISIS killed an estimated 1,700 predominately Shiite soldiers at the former U.S. military base in Iraq.
