A couple of years later, on May 22, 2017, Abedi’s younger brother Salman carried out a suicide bombing in the foyer of the Manchester Arena following a concert by American pop singer Ariana Grande. On August 28, 2021, Abedi was stopped by police under terrorism laws at Manchester Airport. Abedi assured police that he would return to the United Kingdom in time to give evidence to the inquiry in October.
