(New York, NY) – The Counter Extremism Project (CEP) today applauded the arrest in Somalia of prolific jihadi propagandist and recruiter Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan, a.k.a. “Mujahid Miski,” a Minnesota man of Somali descent wanted by the FBI for providing material support to the Somalia-based terror group al-Shabab. Miski had created a broad social-media presence on Twitter and other social media platforms to recruit and incite violence for al-Shabab and ISIS.
The Counter Extremism Project repeatedly called on Twitter to permanently remove Miski after the platform suspended his accounts upwards of 30 times. Each time, Miski reappeared and resumed posting messages of support for ISIS, communicating with would-be jihadists, and encouraging heinous acts of violence.
For example, Miski had reportedly been in contact “for months” with Elton Simpson, one of the two shooters responsible for a May 3, 2015 attack at an event in Garland, Texas.
