CEP Mourns the Passing of American Diplomat Joseph Verner Reed, Jr.

Following is a statement from CEP CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace on the death of Ambassador Joseph Verner Reed, Jr. 

“Everyone who had the privilege and honor of working with Ambassador Joseph Verner Reed, Jr. is deeply saddened by the news of his passing.

“A skilled and dedicated diplomat, Ambassador Reed strengthened the U.N. while serving in a number of key positions during his distinguished career. He was a great friend and a man who touched many.

“Ambassador Reed‘s example of hard work, generosity and kindness made an enduring impression and inspired everyone working toward a better world. He will be deeply missed.”

On April 3, 2017, the day Vladimir Putin was due to visit the city, a suicide bombing was carried out in the St. Petersburg metro, killing 15 people and injuring 64. An al-Qaeda affiliate, Imam Shamil Battalion, claimed responsibility.
