(New York, NY) -- The Counter Extremism Project (CEP) today released the Terrorists and Extremists Database, an updated, searchable list and interactive map of detailed biographical information on more than 400 of the world’s most dangerous extremist leaders, propagandists, operatives, and financiers.
The Terrorists and Extremists Database (TED) features new graphics and search categories that allow users to locate, organize, and compare information. Users can search the database in a number of different ways: by name, organization, type of leader, type of operative, and country of origin.
Following is a sampling of the types of leadership profiles available on the Terrorists and Extremists Database:
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, leader of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Baghdadi has served as ISIS’s caliph, Arabic for “successor,” since June 2014, when he declared himself the chief religious, political, and military leader of all Muslims.
Hassan Nasrallah, secretary-general of the Shiite terrorist group Hezbollah. Since assuming power in 1992, Nasrallah has shaped Hezbollah into the dominant political and military power in Lebanon.
Ayman al-Zawahiri, co-founder of al-Qaeda with Osama bin Laden in 1988. He has been the leader of al-Qaeda since bin Laden’s death in 2011. Zawahiri was also the leader and founder of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad before merging his group with bin Laden’s.
Mahmoud Ezzat, the acting supreme guide of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and leader the entire world Muslim Brotherhood movement. Ezzat assumed the position in August 2013. In November 2015, Ezzat reportedly left Egypt and is believed to be operating out of Turkey.
