Counter Extremism Project Condemns Killings in Chapel Hill, N.C.

(New York, NY) – The following is a statement from the Counter Extremism Project:

“The Counter Extremism Project (CEP) is deeply saddened by the horrific murders that took place in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  We offer our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims during this very difficult time.  The perpetrator of this senseless crime must face justice and we call for a full and thorough investigation that explores any connection between this incident and extremism.”

Fact:

On April 3, 2017, the day Vladimir Putin was due to visit the city, a suicide bombing was carried out in the St. Petersburg metro, killing 15 people and injuring 64. An al-Qaeda affiliate, Imam Shamil Battalion, claimed responsibility.
