On May 4, 2021, the Counter Extremism Project (CEP) hosted a CEP Virtual Roundtable with Lord Walney entitled, Disinformation, Conspiracy Theories, and Solutions Without Censorship.

Lord Walney, John Woodcock, recently appointed as HM Government’s independent adviser on political violence and disruption, hosted this engaging and lively CEP discussion exploring debate surrounding disinformation and conspiracy theories.

Gathering perspectives from academia, journalism, and subject matter experts, our speakers return to basics in exploring the popular myths, realities, assertions, and assumptions when it comes to our information environment, particularly online.

Fact:

On April 3, 2017, the day Vladimir Putin was due to visit the city, a suicide bombing was carried out in the St. Petersburg metro, killing 15 people and injuring 64. An al-Qaeda affiliate, Imam Shamil Battalion, claimed responsibility.
