On September 14, 2019, the Houthis launched drone attacks from Yemen on two key oil installations in Abqaiq, Saudi Arabia. Although there were no casualties, the damaged oil facilities processed the majority of Saudi Arabia’s crude output, which raised the risk of a disruption in world oil supplies.

On September 6, 2017, at least four people were beheaded in Lamu County, Kenya. The attack was one of several within three months that left at least 16 residents beheaded. Somalia-based al-Shabaab militants were suspected.

On September 1, 2021, gunmen abducted 73 students in Zamfara, northwestern Nigeria, one in a string of such kidnappings. The captors released the children on September 13, following a military crackdown in the region.

Fact:

On April 3, 2017, the day Vladimir Putin was due to visit the city, a suicide bombing was carried out in the St. Petersburg metro, killing 15 people and injuring 64. An al-Qaeda affiliate, Imam Shamil Battalion, claimed responsibility.
