On August 30, 2021, a convoy of 300 Taliban fighters entered Khidr district and killed at least 11 former members of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF). The victims all belonged to the Hazara community, an ethnic minority that has been subjected to oppression and violence from the Taliban for decades.

On August 28, 2022, ISIS militants attacked a group of shepherds in the Laylan district of Kirkuk, Iraq. The assailants killed one person and injured another, and at least one ISIS member died.

On August 27, 2019, unidentified militants attacked Quelimane village, Mocímboa da Praia in Mozambique, beheading two people. The same day, unidentified assailants also beheaded five fishermen in Macomia district.

On August 23, 2019, a roadside bomb killed 17-year-old Israeli Rina Shnerb and injured her father and brother while they were hiking near Dolev, an Israeli settlement in the West Bank. Israeli forces arrested three Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) members who were allegedly responsible.

On April 3, 2017, the day Vladimir Putin was due to visit the city, a suicide bombing was carried out in the St. Petersburg metro, killing 15 people and injuring 64. An al-Qaeda affiliate, Imam Shamil Battalion, claimed responsibility.
