On October 20, 2019, Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants opened fire on Turkish soldiers in Dogubeyazit, Agri province during their patrol along the Iranian border. The attacked injured five soldiers.

On October 21, 2017, a suicide bomber blew himself up outside the Marshal Fahim military academy in Kabul, killing at least 15 military cadets and wounding four others. The Taliban claimed responsibility.   

On October 16, 2020, while shouting “Allahu Akbar,” 18-year-old Abdoulakh Anzorov decapitated history teacher Samuel Paty in the Paris suburb of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine. Paty had recently received death threats after showing caricatures of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad in class as part of a lesson on freedom of speech.  

On October 11, 2019, suspected Islamist extremists launched an attack on the Grand Mosque in Salmossi, Burkina Faso. The attack took place during Friday evening prayers, killing at least 16 worshipers.   

 On October 10, 2019, a member of ISIS-linked group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) and his wife attempted to assassinate Indonesia’s Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Wiranto. The male assailant, Syahrial Alamsyah, stabbed Wiranto twice in the abdomen, but the 73-year-old security minister survived.  

On October 9, 2016, a car bomb attack on a Turkish military base in Şemdinli took the lives of 18 people and wounded 27 others. The People’s Defense Forces (HPG), the so-called military wing of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), claimed responsibility.
