This 90-minute webinar from October 16, 2020 looked at the current security situation in Afghanistan, including the current status of the various terror groups still active in the country as well as questions on the impact a potential peace deal may have on the Taliban movement as a whole. Will its leadership be able to keep the movement together or will significant factions break away? How will the al-Qaeda and ISIS affiliates operating in Afghanistan attempt to disrupt and derail the road to stability?
In order to explore these issues, the Counter Extremism Project (CEP) was honored to welcome two of the most pertinent experts on this subject to the event:
Ambassador Edmund Fitton-Brown, the coordinator of the ISIL, Al-Qaida and Taliban Monitoring Team of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC)
and
Dr. Ellinor Zeino, the country director of the German Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) in Kabul
